
Michal Bugala (1982) – finished guitar studies at Jazz Institute of
the University of Music and Dramatic Arts in Graz (Austria) by the
prof. Guido Jeszenszky. During his studies he took part in
workshops with American jazzmen like John Abercrombie, Billy Hart,
RonMcClure, Jerry Bergonzi.
He is a member of musical groups : FuseJazz, Juraj Griglák Company
and “Bass Inferno”,, Dodo Šošoka Slovak Jazz Quartet (2003-05),
Marcel Palonder & Tango Ultimo. He also participates on
projects like : Martin Valihora Group, FunkPunk Project, Oskar
Rózsa Partnership Unlimited...
He played and performed almost with all outstanding native artists,
even with international elite like Victor Bailey, Harry Sokal, Andy
Middleton, Mark Kelley, Howard Curtis, and many others such as Jure
Pukl, Martin Reiter, Lazaro Cruz, Stjepko Gut, Wayne Darling...
At the end of 2008 he based his own formation called Michal Bugala
Group what is a logical result of his compositional activities and
musical practices from his previous activity on the musical scene,
in the sphere of another formations and projects as well. In the
Michal Bugala Group he is presented as a composer, too. He
gains an inspiration from such music of jazz bands as Mike Moreno
Group, Christian McBride Band, Kendrick Scott Oracle, Kurt
Rosenwinkel, Adam Rogers...
Up to the moment, in the formation of the Michal Bugala Group have
performed many outstanding native and foreign musicians : Juraj
Griglák, Dušan Novakov, Milan Nikolić, Tomáš Gajlík, Radovan
Tariška, Štefan Bartuš, Klaudius Kováč and Peter Solárik.
In the sphere of pop and R’nB music: AnitaSoul, Robo Opatovský
Band, Misha, Supple People, Deep’nSpace (2006-08), Tina, Richard
Müller, Janko Lehotský (Modus 2002), NYC Funk Unit, Kim Davis,
Nicol McCloud, Rick Bailey (Delegation)...
Michal Bugala occasionally co-operates with Slovak Sinfonietta -
Chamber music orchestra from Žilina (leading by Peter Breiner) and
with Trnava`s Chamber music orchestra. He recorded many CD`s with
various interprets of jazz and pop music, music of several Slovak
films. He took part in many performances on the international
festivals. He performed in a concerts in many European states
and in New York. Michal Bugala works as a lector of workshops
in Jazz workshop in Piešťany and in Summer Jazz workshop in
Bratislava.
